Environmental Farmers Group Chicken Farm
After seeing the success of the Zamanga Village Chicken Farm and Market Stall, Kazachi used resources generated from the irrigation system to start a chicken farm, producing meat birds to sell within their community, reducing reliance on bushmeat.

First we added roofing material and wire mesh to the windows, protecing the birds from rain and other animals.
The farm can hold 255 birds. It is sectioned into three different areas, yielding 85 chickens bi-weekly.

At the start, the chicks live in the smallest section to the right. A "biochar" heater is placed in the corner to the keep the chicks warm overnight, and the roofing material helps distribute and retain the heat. After two weeks, they move to the medium-sized section.

After two weeks in the medium section, they move to the final stage, where the largest birds begin to get sold.

Because of all the nearby livestock, the farm has a sanitizing footbath to prevent the spread of disease to the broilers. It is equipped with a valve to drain the liquid into a covered leach pit.
It is challenging to get the chicks to the farm, as it involves getting a taxi from town, hiking through the bush, and crossing a few streams. They often arrive dehydrated (as do I), but quickly recover with the addition of an electrolyte solution to the water sources.
